The bells will ring, the buses will roll, and the doors will swing open for another year of Montgomery County Public Schools on August 26. But don’t be fooled—this isn’t just the start of a new school year. It’s the next chapter in a long ideological experiment imposed on our children by the MCEA and their national bosses at the AFT and NEA.

Let’s call it what it is: Woke School 2.0.

This year, MCPS will be doubling down on their radical re-education project—where they believe math is racist, grammar is colonialist, and biology is optional. Where children are encouraged to question their identity before they’re even old enough to ride the bus alone. And where facts take a backseat to feelings, academic rigor bows to social justice agendas, and parents who object are treated like threats.

This is not education. This is indoctrination.

And perhaps nowhere is this ideological overreach more obvious—or more dangerous—than in the plan to gut the Montgomery Blair High School STEM Magnet Program.

As a proud mother of a Blair Magnet graduate, I am furious. This program is turning 40 this year. Forty years of producing national science fair winners, award-winning researchers, engineers, and entrepreneurs. It’s a crown jewel of MCPS—and they want to destroy it in the name of “equity.”

Let me be clear: equity is not about dragging everyone down to the same level. Real equity means expanding access to opportunity, not bulldozing excellence.

🧠 Academic Excellence at Risk

Blair’s Magnet isn’t just good—it’s nationally ranked. It’s a countywide program that has earned its reputation through rigorous coursework, collaborative peer environments, and a culture of achievement. It has inspired generations of students, including those from underrepresented backgrounds, to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

Now, MCPS wants to regionalize it—watering it down, cutting it up, and scattering its resources across the county. They call it “parity.” I call it forced mediocrity.

Instead of dismantling a model that works, why not replicate it? Why not invest in early STEM access in middle and elementary schools? Why not raise all boats instead of sinking the best ship we’ve got?

⚖️ Equity ≠ Uniformity

The Blair Magnet serves all of Montgomery County, not just one zip code. It draws top talent from Clarksburg to Takoma Park, from Germantown to Chevy Chase. It’s a shining example of countywide academic diversity—geographically, socioeconomically, and racially.

By forcing students into smaller, weaker regional programs, MCPS will destroy that diversity and dilute the very thing that makes the Magnet successful: its people. The brainpower. The collaboration. The excellence.

🚍 Logistical Lunacy

Want to know how serious MCPS is about this redesign? Their regional map—crafted by highly paid consultants—wasn’t based on student needs, academic quality, or program outcomes. It was based on… bus traffic patterns.

That’s right. The future of one of the best STEM programs in America is being decided by how many buses can fit on a road during rush hour.

Some of these “regions” span 30 miles. Who’s going to drive these kids? How much will it cost? MCPS has no answers—just a vague promise that it’ll all work out.

💸 Costly, Unproven, and Reckless

There is zero data to support that this regionalization plan will improve educational outcomes. There’s no pilot program. No financial forecast. No evaluation framework. Just a rush to throw everything into chaos to satisfy the political whims of the education establishment.

And of course, they’re doing all of this without asking the people who matter most: the parents.

👨‍👩‍👧 Parents Ignored

MCCPTA, the Montgomery County Council of Parent-Teacher Associations, has been begging MCPS for information and transparency. They’ve been stonewalled at every turn.

It’s no wonder families are frustrated. We’re watching our kids’ futures being traded away behind closed doors by bureaucrats who think parents should sit down and shut up. This is not collaboration. It’s not even consultation. It’s contempt.

📉 Brain Drain is Real

Already, families are looking elsewhere. To private schools. To neighboring counties. To anywhere but Montgomery County.

And who can blame them? If MCPS is going to sacrifice academic excellence on the altar of ideology, then the best and brightest will leave—and they won’t come back.

Montgomery County’s reputation was built on its public schools. On programs like the Blair Magnet. Once that reputation is gone, so too is the magnet that draws high-achieving families, world-class professionals, and future innovators to our communities.

Final Thought

This fall, as the MCPS buses rumble down the street and the school bells ring, don’t just see it as another first day of school. See it as what it is: a battleground for the future of education.

Will we continue down the path of radical social engineering, destroying excellence in the name of equity? Or will we push back—loudly, unapologetically, and with the full force of the parents and taxpayers who actually fund these schools?

The Blair Magnet must be preserved. Not just for the sake of tradition, but for the sake of our children—and the future of education in Montgomery County.

It’s time to stop being silent. It’s time to resist the Resistance.

Because the real resistance is parents who refuse to let political ideology hijack their children’s education.
