To the Good People of Iran: The Time Is Now

To the brave and noble people of Iran—those with fire in their hearts and the memory of freedom in their bones—hear this message with clarity: The time is now.

For more than four decades, your nation has been chained by a theocracy that hijacked your revolution and replaced one tyrant with another—only this one cloaked himself in religious robes and pretended his brutality was divinely sanctioned. Since 1979, the radical mullahs have ruled your land with cruelty, paranoia, and isolation. They turned Persia—a cradle of civilization—into a regime synonymous with oppression, terrorism, and fear.

But Iran is more than its rulers. Iran is its people. And the people remember.

A Legacy Stolen

Once, your homeland was a beacon of science, poetry, medicine, and liberty. Long before Western Europe knew the concept of a republic, Persians had drafted declarations of human rights. While other empires were burning books, you were building libraries. While others glorified conquest, you built gardens and wrote love poems. The very word “Iranian” should stir pride, not fear.

Yet the ruling clerics—the Ayatollahs and their cronies—have done everything they can to bury that legacy. They tell you your only future is jihad. That women should be silent. That dissent is blasphemy. That your neighbor Israel must be destroyed. That America is the “Great Satan.”

But deep down, every honest man and woman in Iran knows the truth: this regime does not speak for you. It never has.

The Green Revolution: A Botched Moment

Fast forward to 2009—a moment pregnant with possibility.

Millions of Iranians, young and old, took to the streets in the Green Movement, protesting the rigged re-election of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. The world watched as unarmed civilians marched for freedom. The streets of Tehran echoed with chants of “Where is my vote?”—and with gunshots. Protesters were beaten. Imprisoned. Murdered.

And what did America—the so-called leader of the free world—do?

Nothing.

President Obama, paralyzed by a misguided desire to “engage” the regime, refused to stand with the Iranian people. His administration stayed silent, calling it an “internal matter.” Instead of condemning the crackdown, the White House looked the other way—because it didn’t want to jeopardize its precious nuclear deal ambitions.

Let that sink in: In Iran’s darkest hour, when the people cried out for international support, Barack Obama muted the voice of liberty.

And we wonder why the regime felt emboldened?

Obama’s refusal to support the Green Revolution was a betrayal—not only of America’s values, but of the Iranian people themselves. That silence echoed in the prison cells of Evin, in the show trials, in the tear gas clouds over Azadi Square.

Had America used its voice, its influence, its media—and yes, its intelligence capabilities—to bolster the dissidents, perhaps the regime would’ve cracked. Perhaps the mullahs wouldn’t have survived that summer.

But again, the West blinked. The Iranian regime did not.

A Nation of Lions, Not Sheep

And yet—you remain.

You—the students studying underground literature. You—the women daring to walk unveiled. You—the engineers building VPNs to break through the regime’s digital firewalls. You—the fathers teaching your children that Iran is not the Islamic Republic.

You are a nation of lions, not sheep.

You’ve suffered through economic sanctions, food shortages, blackouts, surveillance, imprisonment—and still you have not surrendered your souls. You are the descendants of Cyrus the Great, not Khamenei’s servants. You have the blood of poets and warriors in your veins—not cowards and tyrants.

There is a dissident movement alive in Iran today. It is not always organized, but it is growing. In the whispers of Tehran cafes, in the banned books shared among students, in the graffiti scrawled on alley walls at midnight—you are laying the groundwork for the day the regime falls.

Your courage is not in vain.

A Message to the West: Stop Coddling Tyrants

To the elites of Washington, Brussels, and the UN: stop pretending the Islamic Republic is a misunderstood player. It is a terrorist regime. It funds Hezbollah and Hamas. It murdered Americans in Iraq. It plots assassinations in Europe. It represses its people, rigs its elections, and pursues nuclear weapons while pretending to play nice.

You cannot reason with a regime that thinks martyrdom is a foreign policy.

And to those who claim supporting Iranian dissidents is “interventionist,” I say this: silence is also a form of intervention. It sends a message to tyrants that the West will not resist. That oppression will be tolerated so long as it doesn’t disrupt oil prices or climate summits.

We must return to the era when the CIA didn’t just gather intelligence—it acted. When the State Department didn’t make excuses for evil—it confronted it. When America was feared by dictators and loved by dissidents.

The Time Is Now

To the good Persians of Iran: the time is now.

Raise your voices. March in the streets. Organize, resist, demand, fight. Do not wait for permission from the West—it may not come. Do not wait for the Ayatollah to loosen his grip—he never will.

Let this regime know that its lies no longer work. Its robes no longer shield its cruelty. Its time is coming to an end—not through foreign bombs, but through the will of the Iranian people.

You are the revolution now.

And when that glorious day comes—when the people finally reclaim Iran from the clerical tyrants—know that the free world, and the arc of history, will be on your side.

You will rise. And Iran will be free again.
