The Racism of Low Expectations: How the Left Dehumanizes Illegal Immigrants While Pretending to Champion Them

Two Democratic politicians at a podium labeled with a Democratic Party logo, asking, “If you deport illegal aliens, who will cut your grass, bus your tables, or clean your bathrooms?” while a weary immigrant mows the lawn nearby.

We are long past the point where this can be brushed off as ignorance or good intentions gone wrong. What we’re hearing from many Democrats—and their allies in academia, media, and progressive activism—isn’t merely misguided policy. It is racism, plain and simple. A racism cloaked in false compassion and wrapped in the language of “equity,” but racism nonetheless.

Let’s get something straight: the left’s rhetoric about illegal immigration is not about humanity or dignity. It’s about exploitation. And it’s offensive—profoundly so. When prominent Democrat figures say things like, “Who will clean your bathrooms?” or “Who’s going to bus your tables and mow your lawns if you deport these people?” they’re not being inclusive. They’re being patronizing. They’re reducing an entire group of human beings to a permanent servant class.

They claim to be for justice. What they’re really pushing is Jim Crow with better PR.

I Grew Up with Legal Workers — And Real Vetting

Let me take you back for a moment. I didn’t grow up wondering who was going to clean the house or take care of the yard. We had maids. We had a gardener. My parents, like many others in upper-middle-class communities, hired people to help keep the house in order and the lawn trimmed. But they didn’t go to the corner and pick up someone without papers. My mom vetted them. My dad confirmed employment status. These workers had identification, references, and yes—legal status.

You see, the American dream isn’t built on cutting corners or exploiting people in the shadows. It’s built on process. Order. Law. And yes—respect.

The left doesn’t respect immigrants. They pity them. And that’s not the same thing.

Who Will Build Your Houses?

When MSNBC’s talking heads shriek about deportations and say, “But who will build the houses?” do they know how offensive that sounds? Do they think America didn’t have homes before waves of illegal migration?

This country built the Empire State Building in 13 months, long before mass illegal immigration. The Hoover Dam. The Golden Gate Bridge. America wasn’t built by people with fake Social Security cards working under the table. It was built by workers—yes, many immigrants—who came here legally and contributed under the same rules as everyone else.

What Democrats are implying is that Americans are too soft, too lazy, or too white to pick strawberries, frame a house, or wash dishes. You can’t say that out loud about any other group of people without being denounced as a bigot. But say it about American citizens? Suddenly it’s enlightened economic commentary.

It’s not. It’s racism with a smug smile.

The Party of Segregation Hasn’t Changed—They Just Rebranded

This shouldn’t surprise anyone. The Democratic Party is the party of slavery, the party of segregation, the party that filibustered civil rights. They’ve always seen people as groups, not as individuals. And they’ve always needed someone to be at the bottom of the ladder to justify their power and politics.

Now, instead of plantation owners, they have nonprofits. Instead of separate drinking fountains, they have sanctuary cities. Instead of calling Black Americans “the help,” they now refer to illegal aliens as “the labor force we can’t live without.”

That’s progress?

Progress would be helping immigrants become legal, become citizens, become voters and business owners and neighbors. But that’s not the plan. The left wants them working behind the kitchen door forever, whispering in Spanish so as not to upset the patrons. They want them dependent, scared to call the police, unable to organize, unable to vote for anyone but the people who promise not to deport them.

It’s modern-day servitude. The only difference is now they offer “pathways” while still holding the leash.

Coded Language, Clear Intent

When Nancy Pelosi said, “We need these people to pick our crops,” I nearly spit out my coffee. Who exactly is “we,” Madam Speaker? And who designated these people as your designated lettuce-pickers?

If a Republican said that, we’d be holding Senate hearings.

But Democrats get a pass because they put a rainbow flag on the same podium where they demean entire communities. It’s disgusting.

When Joe Biden said deporting illegal aliens is “not who we are,” what he meant was, “We need someone to clean the toilets and vote Democrat in 15 years.” Let’s call it what it is.

You’ll never hear them say, “We need these people to be engineers.” Or “Thank goodness they’re here so they can be surgeons.” No. It’s always some menial job, the type of work they’d never let their own kids do. But for Maria from El Salvador? That’s her place.

That’s not anti-racist. That’s a caste system.

The Left’s Real Fear: An Empowered Immigrant Class

Let me tell you what terrifies Democrats. It’s not a border wall. It’s not ICE raids. It’s not Title 42. It’s legal immigrants.

You see, legal immigrants follow the rules. They learn English. They open small businesses. They vote for safe neighborhoods and lower taxes. Many are conservative. Many love faith, family, and freedom.

Democrats want the powerless, not the empowered. They want votes, not voices. And nothing terrifies them more than an immigrant who says, “No thanks—I’ll succeed without your handout.”

That’s why the left pushes illegal immigration but never fixes the legal process. Because legal immigrants have dignity. Illegal immigrants are a political pawn.

They know it. We know it. And it’s time we said it.

End the Modern Plantation

I want to live in a country where everyone—no matter where they’re from—can rise as high as their talent and character will take them. I don’t want to live in a country where a whole class of people is stuck cleaning up after political elites while they host wine-and-cheese fundraisers about “equity.”

What’s equitable about a woman working 16-hour days under a fake name, terrified of being pulled over?

What’s just about a kid growing up in a garage because his parents were told to “lay low and don’t cause trouble”?

That’s the system the left is defending.

Final Thoughts

I’ve spent my career talking about American greatness. That greatness is built on individuals, not identity politics. It’s built on law, not loopholes. And it’s built on dignity, not dependence.

If Democrats really cared about immigrants, they’d stop treating them like a permanent underclass and start treating them like potential Americans.

But they won’t. Because that wouldn’t fit the narrative. That wouldn’t help them win elections. And most of all—it wouldn’t keep their toilets clean.
