The Left’s Rhetoric Has Consequences: When “Nazi” Becomes a Normalized Slur, Violence Follows

There’s a straight line—undeniable, uncomfortable, and increasingly dangerous—between the rhetoric we hear from the left and the violence we see in the streets. We’ve watched the temperature rise for years, and now, tragically, the pot is boiling over. On social media, in classrooms, and on cable news, Democrats and their radical allies have normalized one of the most reckless lies of our time: that Republicans, ICE agents, and Donald Trump himself are somehow equivalent to Nazis.

Let that sink in. Not people you simply disagree with. Not opponents in a two-party system. But Nazis. That kind of language doesn’t stay rhetorical for long. It invites violence. It licenses it. And increasingly, it inspires it.

Over the weekend, another violent attack was carried out on an ICE field office in El Paso. Molotov cocktails. Gunfire. The building was targeted after an “Abolish ICE” rally marched through the city chanting anti-American slogans and holding signs that depicted ICE agents as stormtroopers and death camp guards. The so-called protesters were egged on by the same talking points we’ve heard for years from members of “The Squad,” the ACLU, and leftist professors: that America’s immigration enforcement officers are part of a fascist system.

We’ve seen this before. In July 2019, a self-proclaimed Antifa member armed with a rifle and incendiary devices attacked an ICE facility in Tacoma, Washington, writing in his manifesto that the center was akin to a “concentration camp” and that ICE agents were “the Gestapo.” Where would someone get that idea? Perhaps from Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who just weeks earlier compared detention centers on the southern border to “concentration camps” on her official Instagram account. No retraction. No apology. No concern about the dangerous escalation her words could trigger.

The sad part is this: it did escalate. It is escalating.

Let’s not forget the 2017 shooting at the Congressional baseball practice. A far-left Bernie Sanders supporter, armed and politically motivated, opened fire on Republican members of Congress, nearly killing House Majority Whip Steve Scalise. This wasn’t a random act of madness. The shooter had a list of GOP lawmakers in his pocket. He’d been radicalized. And he acted on the kind of political hate that’s been mainstreamed on MSNBC, Reddit, TikTok, and in university faculty lounges from Berkeley to Boston.

Fast forward to July 2024. Two separate individuals—one in Pennsylvania, another in Nevada—were apprehended after making plans to assassinate Donald Trump. One was armed. One showed up near an event. Both posted online that Trump was “literally Hitler” and “a fascist threat to humanity.” The scariest part? Millions of people online sympathized. Instead of blanket condemnation, we got reactions like, “Too bad they missed” and “Shame he’s still breathing.”

That’s not political opposition. That’s a death cult masquerading as progressivism.

And where are the Democrats? Nowhere.

Not a single Democrat in Congress—not one—took to the floor yesterday to condemn the latest attack on ICE agents. Not President Biden. Not Chuck Schumer. Not Hakeem Jeffries. Not even the so-called “moderates.” Their silence is deafening. Worse, it’s complicit.

Imagine if the roles were reversed. Imagine if a Republican said the CDC or IRS agents were “like the SS” or “Bolshevik enforcers.” Imagine if a Republican referred to the Biden administration as a “regime” and implied that its agents were “fair game.” The media would scream. Journalists would call it “incitement.” Editorial pages would call for resignations. And you know what? They’d probably be right.

But when the left does it? Crickets. Or worse—applause.

Here’s the reality: ICE agents are law enforcement officers who enforce immigration law. They arrest human traffickers, drug smugglers, and cartel operatives. They remove criminals with outstanding warrants. These aren’t Nazis. They’re patriots. And they are increasingly at risk because of a toxic stew of moral relativism and radical activism encouraged by the very people who claim to be defenders of democracy.

In 2023 alone, DHS reported over 160 violent threats made against ICE offices or personnel. Graffiti calling for the “death of fascists” was found near an ICE detention facility in New Jersey. In Portland, agents were doxxed, their children’s names and schools posted online. A far-left group in Chicago even published a “hit list” of ICE field directors.

Where’s the outrage?

We live in a moment where an entire political movement has convinced itself that its opponents are not merely wrong, but evil. That opens the door to justification—of harassment, of sabotage, and eventually, of political violence. The pattern is clear. The left demonizes. Their activists escalate. And some deranged individual, already wound tight by years of fear-mongering, acts.

The Democratic Party must be held accountable for its role in this crisis. Enough with the cowardice. Enough with the winks and nods to Antifa. Enough with allowing slogans like “No Borders, No Nations, Abolish ICE” to become mainstream.

Words matter. And when you call your fellow Americans Nazis, don’t be surprised when someone decides to act like it’s 1944.
