You ever wake up from one of those weird dreams where you’re running for class president, but instead of giving a speech, you’re juggling flaming bowling pins? That’s basically what it feels like watching this so-called “Dream Team” of governors strut down Pennsylvania Avenue like they’re auditioning for Avengers: The Bureaucratic Saga.
Let’s break down the trio of dreamers.
First up, Gavin Newsom. California’s golden boy—or should I say, golden state boy who turned paradise into a real-life version of Escape from L.A. His dream? Universal prosperity, clean energy, wine country sunsets. The reality? Sky-high taxes, rolling blackouts, and so many people fleeing the state that U-Haul ran out of trucks. Dream Team? More like the “Please Wake Me Up, I’m Paying $7 for Gas” Team.
Then there’s Wes Moore, Maryland’s rookie dreamer. His pitch is all smiles and motivational speaker energy. But reality check: under Wes, Maryland families are staring down new taxes and fees while crime in Baltimore continues to spiral like a bad Netflix reboot of The Wire. He promises unity but delivers gridlock—both in Annapolis and on the Beltway. His dream is Maryland leading the way. Reality? Maryland’s leading the way… out of affordability.
And then, of course, J.B. Pritzker. The man who governs Illinois like it’s an all-you-can-eat buffet of spending. His dream? “Equity” and “fairness.” Reality? Illinois residents paying some of the highest property taxes in America while the state bleeds population faster than a Cubs bullpen blows a lead. His fiscal policy is basically: keep taxing, keep spending, and hope no one notices the deficit ballooning bigger than his reelection campaign signs.
So yeah, they’re the Dream Team—if your dream is higher gas prices, more taxes, and businesses fleeing like rats off the Titanic.
But the way they walk! Gavin’s got the Hollywood shampoo-commercial stride, Wes is grinning like he just got promoted to class president, and Pritzker looks like he’s wondering if the dream includes a dessert table. It’s confidence, I’ll give them that. The kind of confidence you only get when you believe your policies aren’t the reason people are fleeing your states in droves.
Now don’t misunderstand me—I respect ambition. I once dreamed I was dating Madonna circa 1986. But these guys? They’re dreaming bigger than that. Newsom’s dream: a California so green it can’t keep the lights on. Moore’s dream: a Maryland so “equitable” that taxpayers are equally broke. Pritzker’s dream: an Illinois so “fair” that no one’s left to pay the bills.
Here’s the punchline: they think they’re inspiring. They see themselves as JFK, FDR, and Obama 2.0 walking in slow motion toward destiny. But the rest of us see what’s really coming: inflation, crime, and a bill for all the “free” stuff.
Dreams are fun. You wake up from one, laugh about it, and move on. The problem with this Dream Team is that when they wake up, the rest of us are left holding the tab.
So yes, they’re dreamers. But the American people? We’re wide awake—and ready for a reality check.
