If you’ve ever watched MSNBC at 3 a.m. (don’t ask why I was up, long story involving leftover pizza and an “Andy Griffith Show” marathon), you’ve probably seen their favorite genre of news: “Unnamed Republicans Furious at Trump.” Every week, they breathlessly announce, “Republican insiders are turning on Trump.” The insiders are so inside, apparently, that not even Google Maps can find them. They’re like political Bigfoot—always spotted, never photographed.
So, in the spirit of parody journalism, allow me to break a blockbuster: Unnamed Progressive Maryland Democrats are absolutely livid with Governor Wes Moore. Yes, folks, while MSNBC is inventing phantom MAGA defections, I’ll invent some phantom Democrats. See, satire can be fair and balanced.
The Mansion Makeover Meltdown
According to my sources (which may or may not include my Uncle Dave and the bartender at the Annapolis waterfront), there’s deep unrest about Gov. Moore’s taxpayer-funded glow-up of the Governor’s Mansion. Apparently, he’s been renovating like he’s on HGTV’s “Extreme Makeover: Executive Edition.” Rumor has it, one “anonymous progressive activist” is furious that Moore didn’t go with sustainable hemp countertops and instead picked marble flown in from Tuscany.
Another “anonymous state senator,” who is totally real and not just the guy next to me at Wawa buying a breakfast sandwich, complained, “We thought he was the next Obama. Turns out, he’s the next Chip Gaines.”
MSNBC never provides names, so I’m not either.
The Asia Trip That Launched a Thousand Eye Rolls
Then there’s the Asia trip. Gov. Moore embarked on a taxpayer-funded adventure across the Pacific, which I’m sure was entirely about business development and not at all about sampling sushi at its source. Marylanders footed the bill while Moore “scouted economic opportunities,” which is politician-speak for “took selfies in Tokyo.”
One “anonymous Democratic delegate”—who might have been my Lyft driver—whispered, “If he wanted to promote Maryland crabs, he could’ve just gone to Red Lobster in Bowie.” Another “unnamed Annapolis insider” fumed, “You don’t need to fly 7,000 miles to find out sake pairs well with Old Bay.”
Naturally, MSNBC would run this story as: “Growing Democratic Backlash Over Moore’s Reckless Spending.” But when pressed for names? Crickets. Or in this case, steamed crabs.
Media Hypocrisy: A Case Study
The fun part is watching how the press treats these stories. When MSNBC hears “MAGA Republicans furious at Trump,” they send Rachel Maddow into a 30-minute monologue. When Democrats roll their eyes at Wes Moore’s $50,000 faucet replacement? Dead silence. You’ll find more coverage of UFOs spotted over the Chesapeake Bay.
So here I am, filling the void with my own parody version of reporting:
- Unnamed Democrats outraged over Moore’s taxpayer-funded Peloton for the Mansion gym.
- Anonymous county chairs disgusted at the Governor’s $300 sushi bill.
- Secret progressives demanding the Mansion renovations include a safe space room with beanbags and therapy dogs.
All totally unverified, but hey, why let facts ruin a good narrative?
The Takeaway
Here’s the kicker: if Trump orders a steak well-done, it’s breaking news. If Wes Moore spends taxpayer dollars like a college kid with their first credit card, it’s “local interest.”
So next time you hear about phantom “MAGA defections,” just remember Maryland has its own invisible brigade: “Progressive Democrats Disillusioned with Wes Moore.” They meet in secret basements, gripe about his Asia miles, and wonder how many marble bathtubs a Governor really needs.
Unnamed sources everywhere agree: satire is the only way to keep up.
