Let’s not sugarcoat what happened at Montgomery Blair High School last week. Hundreds of students walked out—not to protest injustice, not to support freedom, not even to promote civil discourse. No, they walked out to support someone who broke the law. That’s right—an illegal alien, deported to Guatemala after entering this country without authorization. And they were encouraged, coddled, and cheered on by the same teachers and union leaders who have spent the last decade turning Montgomery County schools into sanctuaries for left-wing ideology.
Let’s state this plainly: illegal immigration is a crime. Entering this country without documentation, evading legal channels, and living here without permission is a direct violation of federal law. That is not up for debate, no matter how many protest signs say otherwise. But in today’s Montgomery County Public Schools, the message is clear: break the law—get a walkout. Support the rule of law—get detention.
The MCEA’s Real Agenda
This entire episode has the fingerprints of the Montgomery County Education Association (MCEA) all over it. The MCEA has long ceased being a union concerned with education. It’s now a political machine pushing radical progressive dogma—from critical race theory to gender ideology to open borders—and they’ve found their newest batch of foot soldiers: our students.
Let’s not pretend these walkouts are spontaneous or grassroots. Teachers openly encouraged participation. Some even rearranged classroom activities to “accommodate” the protest. Try asking your teacher for an excused absence to attend a pro-life rally or a Second Amendment event and see what kind of response you get. These protests are only sanctioned when they follow the MCEA’s far-left script.
The Hypocrisy is Astounding
Could you imagine what would happen if these same students had walked out in 2021 to protest the certification of the 2020 election? We all know the answer. They’d be suspended, expelled, and called domestic terrorists. The media would run hysterical segments on the rise of “far-right extremism in high schools.” The school board would hold emergency meetings. Teachers would be forced to attend anti-radicalization training. But when it’s a protest supporting illegal immigration? The principal applauds their courage. The superintendent posts about “student voices.” Councilmember Kristin Mink shows up for a photo-op.
A Lesson in Lawlessness
What are we teaching our children? That feelings override the law? That if you disagree with a rule, you don’t have to follow it? That ICE is the villain and lawbreakers are heroes? That’s the lesson kids got last week—and it’s dangerous.
The real injustice isn’t deportation. It’s the fact that our schools, which should be sacred places of learning and civic understanding, have become political battlegrounds where only left-wing protests are tolerated.
No Accountability, No Balance
Parents in Montgomery County should be outraged—not just by the walkout but by the complicity of school staff and local officials. While test scores decline and discipline deteriorates, our schools are too busy facilitating political theater to teach math, science, or history. These students aren’t engaging in a thoughtful debate. They’re being weaponized by activist educators.
It’s time we call this what it is: state-sanctioned indoctrination. When schools become echo chambers for progressive politics, when illegal behavior is glamorized, and when student protests are only respected when they serve the left’s narrative—we are no longer educating. We are propagandizing.
Conclusion
Montgomery Blair’s walkout wasn’t brave. It wasn’t principled. It was a predictable, orchestrated performance made possible by the radical agenda of the MCEA and a school system that has abandoned neutrality in favor of activism.
And it’s time for parents, taxpayers, and lawmakers to stand up and say: enough. We don’t send our kids to school to join protests. We send them to learn—and that includes learning to respect the law, even when it’s inconvenient to leftist orthodoxy.
