The Unapologetic Roar of the Free Market
Wake up, America. Shake off the turkey coma, pour the coffee black, and take a good, hard look at what is happening out there on the pavement. The media calls it Black Friday. The critics call it consumerism run amok. But let’s cut through the noise and call it what it really is.
This is Capitalist Day. And it is the single greatest argument for the American Way of Life.
Today is the day we drop the pretense. We stop apologizing for our prosperity. While the rest of the world debates the merits of collectivism or waits for the government to tell them what they’re allowed to have, Americans are doing what free people have always done: we are voting with our dollars. We are exercising the most fundamental liberty there is the right to take the money you earned with your own sweat and spend it on whatever the hell you want.
We need to talk about the “Black” in Black Friday. It’s not about the dark sky at 4:00 AM. It’s about the ledger. It’s about the bottom line.
For the last eleven months, the backbone of this country, the small business owner, the entrepreneur, the risk-taker, has been fighting a war. They’ve been battling the Red. They’ve been fighting inflation that eats away at margins, regulations that strangle innovation, and a tax code that punishes success. They have been holding the line, keeping people employed, and keeping the lights on while the ink in the books stayed crimson.
But today? Today, the private sector comes roaring back to save the day.
This is the day of The Turn. This is the day the American consumer steps up to the plate and says, “We are open for business.” In twenty-four hours, we take businesses from the Red and thrust them into the Black. And let’s be clear: this isn’t a government stimulus package. This isn’t a handout printed out of thin air in Washington, D.C. This is real wealth, generated by real work, exchanged for real goods.
The projections are massive, nearly a trillion dollars in holiday spending. And you know what that number represents? It represents a rejection of the idea that we should manage our decline. It’s a rejection of the scarcity mindset.
When you see a guy hauling a 75-inch 4K TV out of a big box store, or a mom loading up a cart with toys that fill the trunk of her SUV, you aren’t seeing “greed.” You are seeing the dividends of a free society. In other systems, people wait in line for bread. In this system, under the banner of free enterprise, we wait in line for the best technology on earth at 40% off. That is the American flex. That is the difference between a citizen and a subject.
There is a particular crowd that wants you to feel guilty today. They want you to think about your carbon footprint or the evils of accumulation. They want to lecture you about having “too much.”
Ignore them.
Buy the grill. Buy the power tools. Buy the dress. Because when you swipe that card, you are fueling the engine that keeps this nation the world’s superpower. You are validating the supply chain. You are rewarding the innovator who built a better mousetrap and priced it right.
So, Happy Capitalist Day. Enjoy the sales. Hunt for the bargains. And as you watch those businesses go from Red to Black, remember that this miracle doesn’t happen by accident. It happens because, in America, the market is still free, the customer is still king, and prosperity is not something we apologize for; it’s something we pursue.
