Governor Wes Moore’s Misplaced Priorities Led to the Key Bridge Collapse and the Bay Bridge’s Continued Vulnerability

Maryland has suffered an avoidable tragedy with the collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge. While many are pointing fingers, Governor Wes Moore’s administration bears significant responsibility. Rather than prioritizing the maintenance and security of our critical infrastructure, Moore has wasted taxpayer dollars on boutique public transportation projects that serve few, cost millions, and divert funds away from essential infrastructure needs.

The Key Bridge Disaster: A Failure of Prioritization

The Key Bridge was a vital link in Maryland’s transportation network, and yet, under Moore’s leadership, our state’s infrastructure has been neglected. Instead of allocating resources to ensure the safety and stability of critical bridges and roadways, the Moore administration has thrown money at ill-conceived public transportation projects such as the Red Line and the perpetually mismanaged Purple Line. The Key Bridge collapse is a direct consequence of this misallocation of funds and misplaced priorities.

The Bay Bridge: A Disaster Waiting to Happen

If the Key Bridge collapse has taught us anything, our infrastructure is vulnerable and woefully undermaintained. The Bay Bridge, another critical transportation artery, needs upgrades and increased security measures. Yet, the Moore administration continues to focus on expensive transit schemes rather than ensuring the safety of our most vital transportation routes. The clock is ticking, and unless immediate action is taken, Maryland could face yet another catastrophic failure.

The Red Line Boondoggle and the Purple Line Disaster

The Baltimore Red Line is a perfect example of how Moore’s administration wastes taxpayer money on vanity projects instead of prioritizing real infrastructure needs. Baltimore already has a metro system—something many Marylanders, including myself, recently discovered through a YouTube video. Yet, Moore and his administration continue to push for more underused public transit options while ignoring the dire condition of our roads and bridges.

The Purple Line, another transportation nightmare, has been riddled with waste, fraud, and abuse. This project should have been shut down long ago, but instead, Moore’s administration continues to throw good money after bad, all while essential infrastructure projects remain unfunded and unaddressed.

The Absurdity of Maryland’s Public Transit Focus

Maryland’s public transit policies are riddled with inefficiency and misguided priorities. The Baltimore Light Rail, to quote Baltimore County Councilman Todd Crandell, “goes from nowhere to nowhere,” and yet we continue to fund it despite low ridership. Meanwhile, our roads remain clogged, not just because of poor infrastructure planning but also due to policies that create unnecessary congestion.

For example, despite the existence of public school buses, parents overwhelmingly drive their children to school, leading to even more significant traffic congestion. Instead of addressing this problem, Moore’s administration has focused on adding bike lanes and scooter paths that are rarely, if ever, used. These bike lanes eat up valuable road space and make commuting even worse for most Marylanders who rely on their cars to get to work, school, and other destinations.

Governor Moore’s Misguided Blueprint for Maryland

The waste doesn’t stop with transportation. Moore’s administration has doubled on reckless spending through initiatives like the Blueprint for Maryland’s Future, a costly and ineffective education reform plan that drains resources while failing to deliver measurable improvements. This, combined with the continued emphasis on public transit projects with little demand, leaves Maryland taxpayers footing the bill for policies that make their daily lives worse instead of better.

Time for Real Leadership

Governor Moore must be held accountable for the catastrophic failures under his administration. The Key Bridge collapse was a preventable tragedy, and the Bay Bridge could be next if the state doesn’t focus on maintaining and securing its infrastructure. It’s time for Maryland’s leadership to stop funding ideological pet projects and start investing in the infrastructure that keeps our state moving. The people of Maryland deserve better, and it’s time for real leadership that prioritizes their safety, security, and economic well-being.
