This Wednesday on Direct Line, we welcome Robin Ficker, a relentless force in Maryland politics and a self-proclaimed advocate for taxpayers. Born in Takoma Park and a graduate of Montgomery Blair High School, Ficker’s journey includes service in the U.S. Army and earning degrees from Case Western Reserve University, American University, and the University of Baltimore School of Law.
Ficker served in the Maryland House of Delegates from 1979 to 1983 and has since been a perennial candidate for various offices, including U.S. Senate and Maryland Governor. Notably, he has spearheaded numerous ballot initiatives, such as the 2008 charter amendment requiring unanimous County Council approval for property tax increases beyond inflation and the 2016 term limits for County Council members and the County Executive.
Despite facing challenges, including his 2022 disbarment, Ficker remains undeterred in his mission to reform local governance. His recent efforts contributed to the 2024 ballot initiative imposing a two-term limit on the Montgomery County Executive, a measure that passed with significant voter support. Maryland Matters
