Oh, bless his heart, Congressman Kweisi Mfume has done it again. At a Thursday news conference—because apparently solving problems is less fashionable than performing outrage—he declared that President Donald Trump and Elon Musk should be arrested. Yes, arrested. And to his credit, he admitted it might sound “crazy and ludicrous.” Congressman, the first step to recovery is admitting you have a problem. The second step is stepping outside your own district and facing reality.
Let’s play a little game called Mirror, Mirror on the Wall—Who’s the Most Indicted of Them All?
If Rep. Mfume wants to get into the arresting-politicians business, he doesn’t need to look to Florida, Texas, or Mar-a-Lago. He just needs to stroll down North Avenue. Baltimore has a storied history of mayors who confuse City Hall with a cash register.
Let’s recap, shall we?
- Sheila Dixon – Indicted. Convicted. Resigned in disgrace over stealing gift cards meant for poor kids. But sure, Trump’s the criminal.
- Catherine Pugh – Indicted. Pleaded guilty. Jailed for selling her self-published “Healthy Holly” books to organizations doing business with the city.
- And let’s not forget that multiple council members and state delegates from Baltimore have moonlighted as defendants in federal court.
Now, don’t get me wrong. I’m not saying Baltimore City invented political corruption. I’m saying they perfected it.
If we’re handing out arrest warrants based on political offense, Congressman Mfume might want to start by checking whose names are etched into courthouse dockets right down the street. While he rants about Elon Musk tweeting mean things, Baltimore kids are dodging bullets on their way to underperforming schools with no air conditioning and broken windows. Priorities, anyone?
Honestly, Congressman Mfume talking about arresting Trump and Musk while representing a district that’s practically a Hall of Fame for Indicted Officials is like an arsonist lecturing the fire department.
Baltimore doesn’t need more grandstanding press conferences—it needs leadership, accountability, and maybe, just maybe, a break from this tired blame-Trump-for-everything routine. If Congressmen want to fight corruption, I suggest they start at home.
Because if “crazy and ludicrous” is the standard, then I hate to break it to you Congressman—Baltimore’s political class set that bar a long time ago.
