A satirical political cartoon titled "Camp Democracy" showing Congressman Jamie Raskin as a camp counselor holding a rock and instructing three young campers. Signs in the background read "Camp Democracy" and "Classes on Rock Throwing, Obstructing Justice."

Well folks, break out the Birkenstocks and battered copies of Rules for Radicals — it’s that time of year again! Welcome to Jamie Raskin’s “Democracy Summer”, the only summer camp where the Kool-Aid is organic, the lectures are pre-approved by MSNBC, and “democracy” means one thing: agreeing with Jamie.

Let’s be honest — this isn’t your grandfather’s civics course. Unless your grandfather was Tom Hayden and used to chuck Molotov cocktails at ROTC buildings between poetry slams.

According to the website, Democracy Summer is “a nationwide organizing program run by Congressman Jamie Raskin to train and deploy the next generation of political organizers.” Which, loosely translated from Beltway progressive-speak, means “how to obstruct traffic, shout down guest speakers, and accuse everyone who disagrees with you of being a fascist.”

This isn’t about teaching the Constitution. It’s about weaponizing feelings. Forget checks and balances — the only thing they’re checking is your privilege, and the only thing balanced is the tofu.

What’s on the Syllabus at Camp Raskin?

  • Intro to Civil Disobedience
(also known as “Blocking Interstate 495 with Paper Mâché Puppets”)
Learn the fine art of gluing yourself to the pavement while chanting “THIS IS WHAT DEMOCRACY LOOKS LIKE!” every five seconds.
  • Advanced Social Media Smears
A practical course in how to ruin lives before lunch. Topics include: “How to get someone fired with a decade-old tweet” and “Using TikTok tears to go viral.”
  • How to Say ‘Threat to Democracy’ in Every Sentence
Taught by Counselor Jamie himself. Example:
“Hi, I’m Jamie. I’m a Congressman from the People’s Republic of Takoma Park, and I believe your right to speak freely is a threat to democracy.

They’ll also be offering electives, because no one wants to leave camp without a full résumé of progressive virtue-signaling:

  • “Graffiti for Justice”
(spray paint provided by George Soros’s foundation, of course)
Learn how to tag buildings with profound insights like “No Justice, No Peace” and “Defund Libraries (they misgendered me in 5th grade).”
  • “Rock Throwing 101”
(Sponsored by the Portland City Council)
It’s not violence if you yell “Resist!” first. Goggles not included.
  • “How to Film the Police Without Looking Like You’re Filming the Police”
Bonus module: “Yelling ‘This is going on YouTube!’ while filming someone having a nervous breakdown.”

And of course, no progressive summer school is complete without a tribute to the great martyrs of the Resistance:

  • Liz Cheney – Patron Saint of Lincoln Project Republicans who cry on cable news.
  • Adam Kinzinger – Now available for birthday parties, bar mitzvahs, and committee hearings.
  • Nancy Pelosi’s Broken Fax Machine – Which courageously jammed up in 2020, blocking all legislation with GOP co-sponsors. RIP.

Now, Jamie Raskin would have you believe this is about “protecting democracy.” Cute. Because when I think “preserving democratic institutions,” I think of a Congressman who literally tried to overturn the 2016 election — before it was trendy. Yes, Jamie was objecting to Trump’s win back when Rachel Maddow still thought Russiagate was a plot twist, not a punchline.

So what is this really about? Let’s be real: it’s another Democrat Voter Factory™, cleverly disguised as a “youth outreach program.” You show up for the civics and leave as a campaign field coordinator with a clipboard, a pronoun pin, and a thousand-yard stare from watching too much The Daily Show.

What Jamie really wants is a small, loyal army of Gen Z keyboard warriors who can instantly retweet his every MSNBC segment with the perfect cocktail of smugness, hashtags, and avocado-toast emojis. Think less Thomas Jefferson, more TikTok Jefferson.

Imagine the Campfire Stories:

“Gather round, kids. Let me tell you how I bravely tore up a copy of the Constitution while calling Republicans ‘semi-fascists’ for suggesting voter ID.”

“And then, on January 6th, I led a solemn, candlelit march… straight to the CNN green room, where I courageously demanded more airtime.”

You think I’m kidding. But have you seen the website? It’s got more buzzwords than a Harvard admissions essay. “Intersectionality.” “Grassroots.” “Organizing.” “Equity.” It’s like a woke word salad dressed in performative earnestness.

Meanwhile, back in the real world, normal kids are working jobs, doing internships, taking summer classes, or volunteering at soup kitchens. But Jamie’s campers? They’re busy perfecting the art of performative outrage — screaming about saving democracy while simultaneously trying to abolish the Supreme Court, the Electoral College, and basic grammar.

Oh, and let’s not forget Capitalism Is Evil Day at camp, right before everyone Venmos $15 to the local Democratic Socialists of America chapter for their screen-printed Che Guevara t-shirts. You can’t make this stuff up.

Final Thoughts from the Peanut Gallery:

Let’s do a quick recap of the Raskin résumé:

  • Tried to toss out the 2016 election results ✅
  • Called half the country a threat to democracy ✅
  • Accused Elon Musk of undermining free speech… by supporting free speech ✅
  • Believes civic engagement means yelling at people in parking lots ✅
  • Thinks “bipartisan” means agreeing with him ✅

And now he’s running a summer camp.

Democracy Summer? Please. It’s less Schoolhouse Rock and more Les Misérables LARPing in Suburbia.

I’ll pass on the faux-revolutionary TikTok bootcamp, but I do wish the kids luck. They’ll need it when they graduate from Camp Raskin and realize that screaming “DEMOCRACY IS DYING!” doesn’t pay the bills — unless you land a job at The Nation, AOC’s press office, or as a “fellow” at some Soros-funded think tank with a name like “Center for Intersectional Resilience in Democratic Narratives.”

So here’s to another summer of fake activism, curated indignation, and participation trophies for “Righteous Outrage.” And to Jamie: you keep yelling “fascist,” we’ll keep laughing. Welcome to Camp Democracy — just don’t drink the organic Kool-Aid.
