A hand-drawn political cartoon showing Governor Wes Moore shaking hands with Evan Glass inside the American Job Center. Several staff members, observers, and photographers stand around them, and a map of Montgomery County with WorkSource Montgomery branding appears in the background.

Only in Montgomery County can a week of political theater be spun as some heroic victory lap. And of course, leading the parade is none other than Councilmember Evan Glass our county’s reigning champion of performative leadership and selective outrage. According to his latest self-congratulatory dispatch, he spent the day with Governor Wes Moore at the American Job Center in Wheaton, soaking in the glow of “good jobs, skills training, and opportunity.” Very inspirational. Very glossy. Very on brand for a politician who treats talking points like Pokémon, he’s got to catch ’em all.

But let’s not kid ourselves. This wasn’t some deep policy summit about workforce development. This was Evan Glass doing what Evan Glass does best: staging photo ops and posting about them like he’s auditioning for a Netflix reboot of The West Wing. Behind the scenes, the real highlight of the week wasn’t jobs, training, or any of that boring “helping people” stuff. No, no, Governor Wes Moore didn’t come to Wheaton just to smile for pictures. He had a much more urgent mission: getting tips from Evan Glass on how to blow through $5 billion on the new Key Bridge rebuild.

And if there’s one person who knows how to vaporize taxpayer dollars with the speed and enthusiasm of a kid with a gift card in a candy store, it’s Evan Glass.

Picture it: Wes Moore walks into Evan’s office like a student meeting the master.
“Teach me your ways, oh Wise One. Show me how to spend money faster than it can be printed.”
And Evan, adjusting his perfectly curated wardrobe and sipping his $7 kombucha, says:
“Well, Governor, let me tell you about Montgomery County. We’ve turned over-budget projects into an art form.”

Because surely, when the governor needs advice on how to turn a straightforward infrastructure rebuild into a fiscal black hole, he knows exactly where to go. Forget the Army Corps of Engineers, Montgomery County Democrats have perfected the spend-more-get-less model.

Then Evan trots out his favorite boogeyman of the season: “Trump-Musk workforce reductions.” Apparently, this dynamic duo is responsible for everything now. Traffic? Trump-Musk. Rainy weekend? Trump-Musk. Bridge costs going thermonuclear? Trump-Musk. Your dog barking at 3 a.m.? You guessed it, Trump-Musk.

Never mind that Maryland’s own regulations, contracting rules, and union carve-outs are turning the Key Bridge into the next Purple Line disaster. No, no, it’s always easier for Evan to blame the imaginary Republican shadow that haunts his dreams. Forget that his own county is circling the fiscal drain under progressive overspending just shout “Trump-Musk!” like it’s Beetlejuice and hope no one looks too closely.

And naturally, after consulting with Wes Moore on how to launch money into the sun, Evan returns to his social media podium to reassure the public that Montgomery County “stands with our residents.” Federal workers, contractors, families everyone is welcome in Evan Land. Just don’t ask why taxes keep going up while services keep going down. Don’t ask why the county can’t keep a budget balanced for more than five minutes. And certainly don’t ask why every major project ends up taking twice as long for three times the cost.

But hey, Evan took a tour of the job center. And that’s what really matters, right?

Let’s be honest: the only “wraparound support” Evan actually excels at is wrapping himself in self-praise and wrapping taxpayers into another billion-dollar boondoggle. While families worry about rising prices, crime, school failures, and a looming fiscal crisis, Evan’s priority is making sure he’s photographed nodding seriously next to Governor Wes Moore.

This is what counts as leadership in Montgomery County: the illusion of competence, wrapped in progressive buzzwords, tied with a multicolored ribbon of fiscal irresponsibility.

So yes, it was a “terrific” visit. Evan got his inspirational moment. Wes Moore got his spending strategies. And Maryland taxpayers? They get to fund the next chapter of this very expensive sitcom.

And something tells me… the punchline is going to hurt.
