Well, stop the presses and sound the emergency sirens—the American Left has finally discovered the First Amendment.
Yes, you read that right. The same political movement that spent the last four years treating free speech like an infectious disease has suddenly turned into a bunch of powdered-wig-wearing, parchment-waving, liberty-quoting Constitutional scholars.
Why? Because Congress finally pulled the plug on funding National Public Radio.
You’d think NPR was the last guardian at the gate of American democracy the way liberals have been wailing on social media. The cries of “censorship!” “authoritarianism!” and “end of democracy!” have reached such decibel levels that one could reasonably mistake it for a Taylor Swift concert attended by Rachel Maddow.
Let me get this straight: Taxpayer-funded NPR loses funding, and that’s what triggers your sudden love affair with free expression?
Where was this passion when:
- Parents were labeled as “domestic terrorists” for speaking up at school board meetings?
- Pro-life activists were arrested for praying silently in front of abortion clinics?
- Journalists and users were banned for mentioning Hunter Biden’s laptop?
- Or when any criticism of Biden’s policies was algorithmically erased by Silicon Valley in coordination with federal bureaucrats?
No, back then, the Left cheered. They applauded the censorship. They called it “content moderation,” “protecting democracy,” and “fact-checking.” But now that their media sandbox is missing its federal sugar daddy, suddenly it’s “an assault on the First Amendment”?
Please. Give me a break.
A Reminder: Free Speech ≠ Free Government Funding
Let’s begin with a simple truth that apparently escaped every blue-check pundit on NPR’s donor list:
Losing government funding is not the same thing as being silenced.
No one has shut down NPR. No one has taken their microphones, cancelled their domain name, or cut their internet. All that’s happened is the taxpayers are no longer required to fund an organization that regularly treats half the country like they’re wearing tinfoil hats and chewing tobacco for breakfast.
If NPR wants to keep bashing Republicans, singing odes to gender theory, and downplaying every Biden scandal as a “Republican distraction,” they’re free to do so. With their own money. Just like everyone else.
That’s how actual free speech works.
The Left’s Long Love Affair with Censorship
Remember the good ol’ days—like, two years ago—when “free speech” was suddenly rebranded as “hate speech,” “misinformation,” or “violence”?
Back then, if you dared to:
- Say that men can’t get pregnant,
- Post a link to the New York Post’s Hunter Biden exposé,
- Share concerns about vaccine mandates,
- Criticize the Biden administration’s disastrous Afghanistan pullout,
- Or mention that maybe, just maybe, locking kids out of classrooms for a year wasn’t a great idea…
You were flagged. Deplatformed. Fact-checked into oblivion. All with a smug pat on the head and a lecture about how “free speech doesn’t mean freedom from consequences.”
Parents who opposed CRT? Domestic terrorists, per the DOJ.
Pro-life protesters? Federal charges under the FACE Act.
Conservative college speakers? Shouted down, fire-alarmed, or outright banned.
Concerned citizens at city council meetings? Removed by police—for being “disruptive.”
The message was clear: You can say what you want, as long as it agrees with us.
And now, after all that, these same people are tweeting “#IStandWithNPR” like it’s 1969 and Nixon just ordered tanks into the pressroom.
But What About the “Lifeline to Rural America”?
One of the more laughable defenses of NPR’s taxpayer allowance is the claim that it’s a “lifeline” for rural Americans. Yes, apparently the same people they mock as backwards, gun-toting rednecks are now their poster children for federal subsidies.
Funny thing though—in early July, when floods devastated central Texas, NPR didn’t interrupt their 8 a.m. segment on “How Trumpism Is Ruining the Planet” to report breaking emergency news. Local stations were flooded—literally—and NPR was busy sermonizing about white privilege.
So much for that “lifeline.”
Meanwhile, every phone in that region buzzed with Wireless Emergency Alerts. Weather apps. NOAA alerts. Local radio. TV crawlers. Facebook groups. Even Instagram reels.
It’s 2025. Americans don’t need NPR for weather updates any more than they need a telegram boy for stock prices.
A “National Treasure” of Bias
Let’s not pretend this is about high-minded journalism either. NPR’s descent into partisan hackery has been well documented:
- They refused to report on Hunter Biden’s laptop, calling it a “distraction.”
- They cheerlead every progressive narrative while acting like basic GOP talking points are “dangerous misinformation.”
- They platform fringe theorists as mainstream, but treat actual mainstream conservatives like they’re fringe.
- They ran multiple segments praising the 1619 Project, even after top historians debunked it as fiction.
- They spent more airtime defending Drag Queen Story Hour than covering the fentanyl crisis.
This isn’t journalism. It’s progressive fan fiction.
And now they want your paycheck to fund their next 8-part series on “Decolonizing the Suburbs” or “How Meat Is a Symbol of Patriarchy.”
Hard pass.
When the Government Picks Winners, We All Lose
NPR’s defenders act like the Founders envisioned taxpayer-funded media as a sacred pillar of democracy. What they forget is that the Founders were literally fighting against state-controlled press.
Defunding NPR doesn’t violate the First Amendment—it honors it.
A truly free press doesn’t rely on government handouts. It survives because people choose to support it. Let NPR stand or fall on its own merit. Let the audience decide if they want to keep donating every time a pledge drive interrupts All Things Considered for the 17th time that hour.
If MSNBC, The Young Turks, and Pod Save America can operate without public funding, NPR can too.
So Where Was the Outrage Before?
It’s telling how selective the Left’s defense of free speech is. The same people melting down over a budget cut were either silent—or actively complicit—when real censorship was happening.
Let’s review the highlight reel:
- Parents ejected from school board meetings? No big deal.
- Christians arrested for praying near abortion clinics? That’s just enforcing health zones.
- Facebook throttling the Hunter Biden story on orders from the FBI? Just “private companies enforcing their terms of service.”
- Twitter blacklisting doctors who questioned COVID policies? They had it coming.
- YouTube demonetizing conservative creators? If you don’t like it, build your own platform.
Now that one of their sacred institutions is impacted, suddenly we’re living in Orwell’s 1984.
Final Thought: Welcome to the Free Market
Let’s be clear: NPR isn’t going anywhere. Their fans are loyal. Their donors are rich. Their tote bags are plentiful.
But they’ll now have to do what conservative media has done for years: survive in the marketplace of ideas. No subsidies. No taxpayer safety net. No backdoor funding through CPB (which should be next, by the way).
And guess what? That’s a good thing.
Because real journalism doesn’t need a government sponsor. It needs an audience.
So let NPR go lean. Let them sharpen their content. Let them prove their value the old-fashioned way—by earning it.
In the meantime, to my friends on the Left rediscovering the First Amendment: welcome back. We’ve been here the whole time.
Just do us a favor—next time free speech is under attack, maybe speak up before it’s your tote bag on the chopping block.
PBS/NPR Greatest Falsehoods
1. Hunter Biden Laptop Story Dismissed
NPR refused to cover the Hunter Biden laptop story in October 2020, calling it “not a story” and a “waste of time.” The story was later verified by The New York Times and Washington Post more than a year later.
2. Zero Registered Republicans on Editorial Staff (NPR)
Veteran NPR editor Uri Berliner revealed in 2024 that among 87 newsroom staff members in Washington, D.C., zero were registered Republicans—highlighting a severe ideological imbalance within the organization.
3. COVID-19 Lab Leak Theory Labeled “Debunked”
Both NPR and PBS dismissed the lab-leak theory early on in the pandemic, framing it as a fringe conspiracy. NPR published headlines such as “Scientists Debunk Lab Accident Theory,” only for the theory to later gain traction among U.S. intelligence agencies.
4. Biased Political Convention Coverage
A Media Research Center (MRC) study found that PBS (and by extension NPR) aired 72% negative coverage of the Republican National Convention, while giving 88% positive coverage to the Democratic National Convention.
5. Imbalanced Language: “Far-Right” vs. “Far-Left”
PBS reportedly used the term “far-right” 162 times, while using any variant of “far-left” only six times, according to content analysis—illustrating asymmetric ideological framing.
6. Selective Story Prioritization (NPR)
Uri Berliner also noted that NPR habitually selected stories focused on progressive themes—climate change, race, transgender rights—while ignoring or underplaying major conservative stories or counter-narratives.
7. Silencing of Alternative COVID Views
NPR and PBS heavily featured official government narratives on COVID-19 while marginalizing or omitting expert dissent on masks, lockdowns, and vaccine mandates—many of which were later vindicated.
8. Children’s Programming Promotes Progressive Agendas (PBS)
PBS faced criticism for airing LGBTQ+ content during Pride Month and episodes of Sesame Street and Arthur with explicitly progressive messaging. Critics argue PBS’s use of taxpayer funding to push ideology onto children crosses a line.
9. Promotion of the 1619 Project (NPR)
Despite widespread criticism from leading historians, NPR heavily promoted the 1619 Project and featured its creator, Nikole Hannah-Jones, in multiple flattering segments without hosting dissenting voices.
10. Censorship of the Right Framed as “Moderation”
Both NPR and PBS offered sympathetic coverage of Big Tech censorship actions that disproportionately impacted conservatives—e.g., downplaying bans on stories or accounts critical of the Biden administration as “fact-checking” or “terms enforcement.”
11. Positive Portrayal of Drag Queen Story Hour (PBS)
PBS aired and supported content including drag queen story programs, with critics arguing that this is ideologically driven and inappropriate for federally funded children’s broadcasting.
12. Minimization of Border Crisis and Crime
NPR consistently downplayed or re-framed the U.S.-Mexico border crisis, using terms like “migrants seeking safety” and minimizing coverage of violent crime spikes in cities governed by progressive mayors.
13. Attacks on Parental Rights Framed as “Extremism”
When parents showed up at school board meetings to oppose CRT, gender ideology, or masking policies, NPR and PBS often framed them as “right-wing agitators” or “conspiracy theorists” rather than concerned citizens.
14. Pro-Life Prayer Arrests Ignored or Downplayed
PBS largely ignored or defended the Department of Justice’s FACE Act prosecutions of pro-life activists silently praying outside abortion clinics—offering little critical analysis of whether these prosecutions infringed on free expression.
15. Silence on Major Biden Administration Failures
NPR and PBS have provided minimal critical coverage of the Afghanistan withdrawal, inflation mismanagement, and border security failures under Biden, often giving the administration the benefit of the doubt.
16. Loaded Guest Panels and Commentary (NPR)
Guest panels on NPR routinely feature left-leaning voices across commentary programs like Morning Edition, All Things Considered, and Fresh Air, with few or no conservative counterparts—resulting in ideological echo chambers.
17. PBS Staff Comments on “Right-Wing Threats”
In congressional hearings, PBS executives were criticized for describing traditional conservative positions (like opposition to DEI programs) as “threats to democracy,” showcasing an internal bias reflected in programming.
18. Hostility to Religious Liberty Advocacy
PBS and NPR have often framed religious liberty cases—especially those defending Christian views—as “anti-LGBTQ” or “discriminatory,” rarely presenting neutral or supportive legal analysis.
19. Reluctance to Cover Left-Wing Violence
During periods of political unrest (e.g., 2020 riots), NPR and PBS downplayed violence associated with left-wing protest groups while emphasizing peaceful intentions—an imbalance not applied to right-wing protest coverage.

While independent journalists exposed government–Big Tech collusion via the Twitter Files, NPR largely ignored the revelations, calling them “not newsworthy”—despite their direct implications for free speech.
