On Sunday, August 17, 2025, Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott went on MSNBC to huff and puff about President Trump’s federal takeover of Washington, D.C.’s police force. Predictably, Scott called it a “dog and pony show,” dismissing the move as political theater. But if you step outside the MSNBC bubble for two seconds, the reality is obvious: Trump’s intervention was both necessary and overdue. And Scott’s defensive performance says more about his fear of accountability than it does about the President’s leadership.
Trump Acts, Democrats Whine
When crime skyrockets in America’s big cities, the Democrats’ reflex is always the same: blame “systemic issues,” trot out a few buzzwords about “community-based solutions,” and then smear Republicans as authoritarian for actually enforcing the law. Trump’s move to assert federal control in D.C. wasn’t about political theater; it was about restoring order in a city where the murder rate and carjackings have spiraled out of control under local mismanagement.
Scott and his fellow progressive mayors hate that Trump is exposing their failures. For years, they’ve hidden behind talking points and cherry-picked statistics, insisting their “locally tailored reforms” are working. If things were really improving in Baltimore, would parents be afraid to let their kids play outside? Would businesses be packing up and leaving? No. Scott knows the truth—Baltimore is still drowning in violent crime, and Trump’s decisive action makes his rhetoric look hollow.
“Community-Centered Strategies” vs. Reality
Mayor Scott claims Baltimore has seen “real declines in violence” thanks to “comprehensive, locally tailored reforms.” Sounds nice in a grant proposal, but ordinary people aren’t buying it. Ask any Baltimore resident if they feel safer walking to the grocery store at night, and you’ll get your answer.
The so-called progress Scott brags about is paper-thin, dependent on cherry-picked time frames or federal dollars his administration happily cashes while trashing the President who made them available. He dismisses Trump’s use of federal power as destabilizing, but what destabilizes a community more than criminals running the streets unchecked?
Trump’s America-First Policing Works
President Trump has always believed in putting American families first, whether at the border or in our cities. That’s why his decision to take control in D.C. resonates so strongly: it shows the federal government can and should step in when local leadership fails. The Constitution gives Washington ultimate responsibility over the District of Columbia. By extension, Trump is reminding mayors across the country that if they won’t protect their people, he will.
And let’s be honest: if you lived in Baltimore, Chicago, or Oakland, wouldn’t you prefer federal agents restoring safety to your neighborhood over another round of press conferences where mayors brag about “violence interrupters” while your car gets stolen?
Scott’s Fear of Accountability
The “dog and pony show” line from Scott is pure projection. The real circus has been the Democratic mayors pretending their cities are success stories while residents suffer. Scott isn’t worried about federal “overreach.” He’s worried Trump will succeed where Democrats have failed for decades, exposing their entire progressive model as a sham.
Conclusion: Trump Delivers, Democrats Distract
At the end of the day, Trump’s decisive leadership is what separates him from mayors like Brandon Scott. Where Scott talks, Trump acts. Where Scott sees “theatrics,” Trump sees an obligation to defend Americans. Baltimore’s mayor may have gotten applause from MSNBC’s studio audience, but the American people know the truth: Trump’s so-called “dog and pony show” is exactly what cities like Baltimore need—a President unafraid to use the power of the federal government to keep citizens safe.
And that’s the difference between Trump and Scott: one delivers results, the other delivers excuses.
